Malta Day 6

Ciao a tutti!

L’ultimo giorno a Malta abbiamo deciso di visitare il Tarxien Temple e di ritornare a La Valletta per visitare la Saluting Battery perché la volta prima non ci eravamo riusciti. Il biglietto per il tempio costa 6€, ma per gli studenti costa 4,50€. Il Tarxien Temple è composto da 4 strutture megalitiche e fu scoperto da agricoltori locali. Anche i miei genitori avevano visitato questo luogo e ho potuto notare alcune differenze. Quando erano andati loro si poteva camminare tranquillamente in mezzo alle varie strutture, mentre ora hanno creato una passerella e non ci si può più avvicinare troppo alle pietre. Le parti più particolari sono quella che una volta era un porta e le gambe di una statua, di cui l’originale è conservato al Museo Archeologico di La Valletta. Dopo ci siamo spostati a La Valletta e abbiamo visitato la Saluting Battery. Il biglietto costa 2€ e aggiungendo 1€ avete anche l’audioguida che vi spiega bene tutto. La vista da qui è molto bella perché si possono vedere le penisole delle cittadine vicine. Il monumento è stato restaurato e accoglie cannoni funzionanti (che sparano a salve alle 12.00 e alle 16.00), deposito di artiglieria, magazzino di stoccaggio della polvere da sparo, una collezione di armamenti e un piccolo museo. Per chiudere in bellezza abbiamo mangiato cena fuori per assaggiare i piatti tipici locali, ma io non sono rimasta molto soddisfatta della cucina maltese quindi non ve lo consiglio. The last day in Malta we decided to visit the Tarxien Temple and to go again in La Valletta to visit the Saluting Battery. The ticket for the Temple is 6€, but for student is 4,50€. The Tarxien Temple is composed by 4 megalithic structures and was found by local farmers. Also my parents visited this place so I can found some differences. When they went there you can walk through the temple without any protection, but now they have build a boardwalk and you can’t go too close. The most particular parts are a little arch door and the legs of a statue, which the original is conserved in the Archeological Museum of La Valletta. After this visit we went to La Valletta to see the Saluting Battery. The ticket cost only 2€ and with 1€ you can also have the audio-guide. The view from there is very beautiful, because you can see the harbor and the little city in front of La Valletta. The building has been reconstructed and there are guns still in use (every day at 12.00 and 4.00 p.m.), an artillery storage, a warehouse of gun powder, a collection of armaments and a little museum. Before going to the airport we eat something typical in a local restaurant, but I didn’t like it so much so I don’t recommend. I leave you some photos of the day, hope you like them!

Malta Day 5

Il 27 Agosto abbiamo deciso di andare a visitare Mdina e Rabat. La storia di queste due città gemelle infatti è molto interessante: Mdina era l’antica capitale di Malta e per questo è fortificata, mentre Rabat è stata ospite di diversi ordini religiosi. Per entrare a Mdina infatti bisogna attraversare il Mdina Main Gate. Uno volta entrati noi ci siamo subito diretti alla St Paul’s Cathedral che però abbiamo visto solo da fuori. Poi siamo andati a vedere la Domus Romana. Questo museo non è nulla di eccezionale infatti ripensandoci avrei preferito entrare nella Cattedrale. Dopo passando davanti alla Parish Church of St Paul siamo andati al Wignacourt Museum & St Paul’s Grotto. Vi consigliamo molto di visitare questo museo con annesse catacombe perché con 2€ potete anche prendere l’audioguida che vi spiega molto bene ogni sala. Inoltre il biglietto intero costa 5€, mentre per gli studenti 3,50€. L’edificio in cui è ospitato il museo era la residenza del cappellano dei Cavalieri di St John. Dopo questa breve visita alle città di Mdina e Rabat, abbiamo deciso di andare a Mosta per vedere il Mosta Dome o Rotunda of Mosta. Questa chiesa è molto particolare perché è sviluppata tutta sul cerchio. L’ingresso è gratuito e proprio di fianco alla chiesa c’è un negozio dove comprare alcuni cibi tipici. Per questi motivi ve la consigliamo moltissimo! Di seguito trovate alcune foto scattate durante la giornata, spero che vi piacciano!

The 27th of August we decided to visit Mdina and Rabat. The history of these two little town is very interesting: Mdina was the ancient capital city and for this reason is still fortified, and Rabat was the host city for different religious order. To get into the city of Mdina you have to pass trough the Mdina Main Gate. We go straight to the St Paul’s Cathedral, but we decided not to visit it inside. Then we went to the Domus Romana. This museum is not so wonderful and maybe we should visit the Cathedral instead of it. After this museum we went to the Wignacourt Museum & St Paul’s Grotto which is near the beautiful Parish Church of St Paul. We strongly recommend to visit this museum because con 2€ you can also take the audio-guide which explain you all what you want to know for each room of the palace. The ticket is 5€, but for student is 3,50€. The building where the museum take place is the residence of the Chaplain of the St John’s Knights. After this brief visit at Mdina and Rabat we decided to go to Mosta to visit the Mosta Dome or Rotunda of Mosta. This church is very particular because the main building is a circle and there is a wonderful dome. The entrance is free and near the church there is a local shop where you can buy typical food. For these reason we recommend to visit this church! Hope you enjoy our day and like the photos!

Malta Day 4

Ciao a tutti!

Il 26 Agosto volevamo riposarci un po’ in spiaggia e quindi abbiamo deciso di visitare la tanto acclamata Blue Lagoon. Quindi ci siamo svegliati abbastanza presto per prendere il bus che ci avrebbe portato a Cirkewwa, dove avremmo preso la nave per raggiungere l’isola di Comino. Noi vi consigliamo di prendere la Comino Ferries Co-op perché con 10€ a persona andate e tornate e durante il ritorno fate un breve giro intorno a Cominetto e riuscite a vedere tutte le grotte e le insenature! Inutile dire che l’acqua alla Blue Lagon ha dei colori veramente spettacolari però c’è troppa gente e lo spazio per poter mettere i propri asciugamani è molto limitato. Dopo aver fatto un bagnetto e sgranocchiato qualcosa decidiamo di andare a fare un giro sull’isola e per questo andiamo a vedere e a salire sulla St Mary’s Tower. L’ingresso è a offerta libera e all’interno ci sono pannelli informativi anche in italiano. Dopodiché abbiamo deciso di tornare sull’isola di Malta perché la situazione spiaggia stava degenerando. Visto che era ancora presto ci siamo fermati nel centro di Mellieha e abbiamo visitato la Parish Church. Spero che la nostra giornata vi sia piaciuta quanto le foto che vi lascio di seguito.

The 26th of August we wanted to relax a bit on the beach, so we decided to go to the most beautiful beach in Malta: the Blue Lagoon. We woke up quite early to take the bus which took us to Cirkewwa, where we took the boat to reach Comino island. We strongly recommend Comino Ferries Co-op because you pay 10€ and you can go and come back and you can also see the little caves. The water at the Blue Lagoon is very beautiful, but I think there are too much people going there every day, so the space where you can lay out and relax is really small. After a good swim and some snacks we decided to go around and visit what there is on the island. Fortunately we reached the St Mary’s Tower just in time to have a look. The entrance is free and inside there are some information panels about the history of the tower. Then we decided to come back to Malt because the situation around the beaches was even worse then when we arrived. It wasn’t too late so we decided to walk a bit in the center of Mellieha and we visited the Parish Church. Hope you enjoy our day and like the photos!

Malta Day 3

Ciao a tutti!

Il 25 Agosto abbiamo deciso di andare a visitare qualche sito archeologico per vedere com’erano i veri templi. Con il bus ci siamo quindi recati a Mgarr per visitare Skorba e Ta Hagrat. Purtroppo non avevamo capito come fare i biglietti quindi abbiamo perso un po’ di tempo per recuperarli. Ci siamo recati quindi al “Mgarr Local Council”, che per fortuna non è molto lontano dai siti e che per fortuna era aperto. Sul sito dice che si possono anche fare on-line, ma noi non abbiamo capito bene come. Noi abbiamo pagato 11€ per un biglietto studenti e un biglietto normale. Skorba Temple è uno dei siti più antichi ritrovati e infatti ci sono poche pietre rimaste ancora intatte. Ta Hagrat Temple è caratteristico perché presenta ancora un arco sotto il quale si può passare per “entrare” nel vecchio tempio. Dopo la visita ai siti abbiamo dato un’occhiata da fuori alla Mgarr Parish Church e abbiamo preso un altro bus che ci ha portati fino alla spiaggia Gnejna Bay. Vi lascio alcune foto della giornata. The 25th of August we decided to go visiting some archeological sites to see how temples really were in ancient times. We took the bus and we went to Mgarr to visit Skorba and Ta Hagrat Temples. We didn’t understood easily how to get the ticket, so we spent a lot of time to manage to do it. We had to go to the “Mgarr Local Council”, which fortunately was near the temples and was open. On the website is written tht you can only but tickets on-line, but we didn’t understood how to do it. We bought the tickets for 11€, one for student and one standard. Skorba Temple is one of the most ancient site and for that reason there are few stone left. Ta Hagrat Temple is very nice because there is a beautiful stone arch and you can pass through it to see the remains of the original temple. Then we want to visit Mgarr Parish Church, but it was closed so we looked at it only from the outside. After we decided to have some rest and we took a bus that leave us at the Gnejna Bay beach. Malta Day 2

Ciao a tutti!

Oggi, come avete potuto capire dal titolo vi parlo del 24 Agosto, ovvero del secondo giorno che io e il mio ragazzo Simone abbiamo passato a Malta per le vacanze estive. Abbiamo deciso di prendere il bus e andare a La Valletta, la capitale dell’isola. La stazione dei bus è enorme e i bus si fermano direttamente davanti all’ingresso della città (City Gate). Appena entrati sulla destra c’è il Parlamento. Noi ci siamo recati subito nell’ufficio turistico per avere conferma delle attrazioni visitabili e poi abbiamo iniziato dal Museo Archeologico. Il biglietto costa 5€, ma per gli studenti il ridotto costa 3,50€. Nel biglietto è compresa l’audioguida e per ascoltare tutto ci vogliono circa 2 ore. Qui sono conservati alcuni pezzi originali dei siti che poi siamo andati a visitare. Dopo pranzo siamo andati nella bellissima St John Co-Cathedral. Il biglietto costa 10€, ma gli studenti pagano 7,50€. Anche qui, compreso nel biglietto si può avere l’audioguida che spiega ogni dettaglio delle decorazioni. Questa chiesa è davvero spettacolare perché è in maggior parte ricoperta di oro ed è fortemente decorata. Inoltre il pavimento di marmo intarsiato è composto da quasi 400 lastre tombali. Per oltre 200 anni è stata adibita a chiesa conventuale dell’ordine dei Cavalieri di San Giovanni. Poi abbiamo visitato le Palace State Rooms (che purtroppo erano in fase di ristrutturazione) e la Palace Armery, che è piaciuta molto al mio ragazzo. Il biglietto cumulativo costa 8€, ma per gli studenti c’è lo sconto e costa 6€. Purtroppo non abbiamo potuto vedere molto delle stanze reali, ma nell’armeria abbiamo potuto prendere l’audioguida gratuita, che spiegava le varie tipologie di armi ed armature. Dopo ci siamo recati al Fort St Elmo all’interno del quale si trova il National War Museum. Il biglietto costa 10€, ma gli studenti pagano 7,50€. Il museo è sviluppato in ordine cronologico, ma la cosa più spettacolare è la vista che si ha dal forte. Poi abbiamo visto la Siege Bell War Memorial, che è un monumento con una grossa campana al suo interno. Dopo ci siamo recati al parco sopra la Saluting Battery per rilassarci un po’. Infine siamo tornati a casa con il bus. Spero che questa giornata vi sia piaciuta. Più in basso trovate alcune delle foto che ho scattato.

Today, as you may understood from the title, I want to talk you about our second day me and my boyfriend spend on holiday this summer. The 24 August we decided to take the bus and reach the capital of Malta: La Valletta. The bus stop in La Valletta is very big and they left us just in front of the entrance of the city (City Gate). After passing the gate, at your right you can find the Parliament. We immediately went to the tourist office to be sure what we can see in that day and then we moved to the National Museum of Archeology. The ticket costs 5€, but for student is 3,50€. With the ticket you can also take the audioguide. The museum is really big, so I suggest you to take at least 2 hours to visit it all. During the visit you can see some of the original rock that where in different sites around Malta. After lunch we visited the wonderful St John Co-Cathedral. The ticket is 10€, but for student is 7,50€. Also here you can have the audioguide which inform you about every details of the church. This building is really amazing because it’s mostly covered by gold and it’s really strong decorated. Furthermore the floor is made by inlaid marble and there are quite 400 gravestones. For more then 200 years this was the church of the St John’s knights. Then we visited the Palace State Rooms (which unfortunately where under restoration) and the Palace Armery, which my boyfriend really loved. There is a cumulative ticket which costs 8€, but for student is 6€. Unluckily we couldn’t visit well all the Palace Rooms, but in the Armery we manage to have the free audioguide, which explains each type of weapons and armors. After we went to Fort St Elmo, where there is also the National War Museum. The ticket is 10€, but for student is 7,50€. The visiting is in chronological order, but the thing I loved most is the view from there. Then we walked around the walls and we saw the Siege Bell War Memorial, which is a monument with a big bell inside it. We continued walking and we reach the gardens above the Saluting Battery and we rested for a while. Lastly we come back home by bus. I hope that you like this day. Malta Day 1

Ciao a tutti!

Quest’estate con il mio ragazzo Simone siamo andati in vacanza a Malta. Ho deciso di raccontarvi quello che abbiamo visitato con una serie di post che raccontano un’intera giornata (come quelli per Bruxelles). Siamo partiti dall’Aeroporto di Caselle con Ryanair il 23 Agosto e siamo rimasti a Malta fino al 30 Agosto. Siamo arrivati per pranzo e abbiamo mangiato in aeroporto i panini che ci eravamo preparati per il viaggio. Poi abbiamo deciso di comprare il biglietto cumulativo per usare i mezzi pubblici che è costato 21€ per 7 giorni. Poi attraverso il wifi dell’aeroporto siamo riusciti a capire quale bus prendere per raggiungere l’appartamento che avevamo prenotato su airbnb. L’appartamento è situato nella zona di Mellieha (la parte alta dell’isola) e distava 2 min dalla fermata dei mezzi e quindi ne siamo stati molto soddisfatti. Inoltre aveva anche un dehor con un tavolo e delle sedie per cenare all’aperto e da cui si vedeva il mare. Essendo il primo giorno, ci siamo sistemati e abbiamo fatto un veloce giro del luogo. Purtroppo non ho fatto moltissime foto in questo giorno, ma continuate a seguirmi!

Hi everyone!

This summer with my boyfriend Simone I went to Malta. I decided to tell you about our trip in some post which contain a full day (like the ones of Brussels). We leave from Caselle Airport the 23 August and we come back the 30. We arrive at Malta Airport for lunch so we eat the sandwiches which we prepared for the trip directly in the airport. Then we decided to buy the ticket for the public transport. There is a card can allow you to get whatever bus at whatever hours for 7 days and costs 21€, so we decided to buy this one. After then we manage to know which bus takes us to the apartment we book by airbnb. The apartment is located in the Mellieha area (the top of the island) and was 2 minutes walk from the bus stop, so we liked it so much. Furthermore there was also a dehor where we can eat and from which we can look at the sea. This was the first day so we didn’t walk and see a lot, we just have a quick view of the area, but don’t worry the following days we done a lot of funny things!
